Johnson and Wales VS Culinary Institute of America: Which is Better?

Let me start by saying that the CIA and JWU are both good schools. However, they both have the advantages. Here is a comparison between the schools and which one wins as a better choice in each category.

Tuition & Fees:

Price is everything. It really is. It can make almost all the difference on which school you decide to go to. So if one school is less than the other, that may be the only reason you need to attend that school.

Johnson & Wales:

  • Tuition: $27,156
  • Room & Board: $11,157
  • Books & Supplies: $1,800
  • Personal Expenses: $1,065
  • Transportation: $1,000
  • TOTAL: $42,178

Culinary Institute of America:

  • Tuition: $27,720
  • Room & Board: $8,830
  • Books & Supplies: $1,440
  • Personal Expenses: $1,050
  • Transportation: $1,050
  • TOTAL: $40,290

Winner: Culinary Institute of America (CIA 1 / JWU 0)

Some may say this is the deciding factor. If one college has a better reputation than the other, then you should choose that one right? well not always. But it is worth more than any other factor. That being said this Category is worth 2 points.

Johnson & Wales:

  • JWU has been on a rise for a very long time. Now bigger than ever, graduating from there is a big deal now. It is also the first school in the US to offer a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts. It is also a full university so you can get more than one degree in totally different fields (and if you ever decide that culinary arts is not for you, you can easily change majors).

Culinary Institute of America:

  • The Culinary Institute of America has the best reputation in America. It is the oldest Culinary school ever. The college is also associated with over 300 culinary companies that recruit chefs from the CIA, making it easier to find a job.

Winner: Tie (CIA 3, JWU 2)

College Life:

Everyone would like to be happy where they are. We want to look back at college and say, “that was the best time of my life”. That being said, College life is a big deal.

Johnson & Wales:

  • Johnson and wales has more than 20 different sports and clubs to choose from. It is a full campus with various amounts of majors to explore as well a wider range of personalities. It is located in Providence, Rhode Island which is a small urban setting city. The average age is also 21.

Culinary Institute of America:

  • CIA only has 13 different sports and clubs to choose from. However it’s campus is the most beautiful site to see. It is located in Hyde Park, NY which is a large Suburban town. the Average age is 23.

Winner: Johnson & Wales (CIA 3, JWU 3)

So there you have it. There is no real winner. It’s all up to you. Your choice. So you decide.

Which School Do you think is Better?
